Funny Hasslevania slams
Personally I love these even though I probably should be mad LOL. I found this one today and thought it'd make for a good thread starter:

Boy they're going to hate the sequel's voice overs, I guarantee!
I know there's plenty more out there, time to find them!
*Yes, I google my own games. Sue me!

You're forgetting this one:
"I also really would discourage putting hidden hole bricks right after the hardest part of the game and rubbing in that the player didn’t know it was there with a ‘LOL!’ sign. I can assure you…I was not LOLing." - Beau, Posted Here

Of course, you can see the LOL Sign way before you actually get to the end of that level, so people SHOULD know something like that would happen.
When i saw the sign, for example, i thought: "Oh yeah, Metroid..."

See, now this is cool Yoritoshi because that's exactly what I wanted people to think. Good to see somebody got it. ![]()
And what's a thread l like this without mentioning the one that started it all:

I mean, I can see adding a voice track for a really deep and polished game, but this is just 120 lbs of cake frosting slathered onto a tiny turd.
From TigSource here: http://tigsource.com/articles/2007/11/20/hasslevania
What stings about that one is that the highest concentration of people to ever download Hasslevania unfortunately played the worst and most unpolished version of the game (V.1). The above quote however was so good I made a point to add it to the Hasslevania homepage greeting as seen below:

Re: Funny Hasslevania slams
I've never actually seen anyone bashing the game. I remember reading an article about it in a games for windows magazine awhile ago though. Those peoples seemed to like the game.

I actually went far and wide to buy a games for windows magazine when I heard it was in there. Not a lot of places where I live carry it but I found a few copies at Borders. It was so awesome to see it in a real magazine like that, I still have it somewhere. I'll probably frame it if I never get famous later haha.

Hasslevania's #10 on this list of top 10 indie Metroidvanias. That's pretty cool!
They mention the voiceovers as the worst they've ever heard. The worst! That means it's #1 on somebody's list in that regard. Yahoo!!

Holy shit...ranking just below Iji is certainly quite the honor. Nice to see H1 getting some recognition.

Hey, attention IS attention, even if it is negative. This means people know of and about you/your work which in turn means your chances of getting picked up by a devteam somewhere go up. As cliche as this sounds sometimes WHO you know really is more important that WHAT you know.

Re: Funny Hasslevania slams
The only bad part about all of this is that the engine is so much better for Hasslevania 2, a game that I can't even guarantee will ever get finished. If H1 had the same engine (which has a lot less problems) and enemies had these sort of drops and all the other improvements, I know it'd be better than it currently is. By a lot too.
Unfortunately it's not a matter of simply taking all the improvements out of H2 and slapping them into H1. There's way too much that's different and the code wouldn't fit correctly. That's too bad. But yeah, any press is good press I agree.

Re: Funny Hasslevania slams
Hmm seems like I need to play some of those, I love metroidvanias. Glad to see Hasslevania making it into that list, although it´s kinda weird of them to include Iji on it, I really don´t think that game´s a metroidvania.

Re: Funny Hasslevania slams
Yeah there's some ruckus at the bottom in the comments where people said some of those aren't real Metroidvanias. As much as I like Knitt Stories that's not really a Metroidvania either. Sure you can get different things to help you out (umbrella for slowfall for example) but none of those were really needed to advance to any other areas IIRC.
Lyle in Cube Sector though, glad to see that get more love. That game rules.

Re: Funny Hasslevania slams
I, personally, kinda hate how people call games that play similarly to SotN Metroidvanias. A Castlevania game that plays like a Metroid game is a Metroidvania. I'd say that "Metroidvania-style game" would be more accurate.

Awesome to see H1 on a top list like that. I wouldn't really call alot of those games metroivanias though.

I just hate the other word they sometimes use, "Castleroid". Sounds like something unfortunate that grows on your ass.

I don't mind it. I hate it when people butcher the terms. For instance, some people say Castletroid.
